Book FREE ConsultationWhat is HPV?
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world. There are over 100 strains of HPV, of which around 40 affect the genital area. Most HPV infections clear on their own without causing problems, however persistent infection with high risk strains can lead to cancer.
HPV is responsible for the majority of cervical cancers, as well as cancers of the throat, mouth, anus, penis, vagina and vulva. It also causes genital warts. The HPV vaccine protects against the strains most likely to cause cancer and genital warts, making it one of the most important cancer prevention tools available.
Do I need this vaccine?
The HPV vaccine is recommended for anyone who did not receive it as part of the NHS school programme, or who wants to ensure they are fully protected. It is most effective when given before first sexual contact but still provides benefit to those who are already sexually active.
Ages 9 to 45
The vaccine is licensed from age 9 up to age 45 for those who have not previously been vaccinated
All genders
HPV vaccination is recommended for both males and females as HPV-related cancers affect all genders
Cancer prevention
Protects against strains responsible for 90% of cervical cancers and most other HPV-related cancers
