Why get vaccinated against flu?
Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory illness that circulates every winter, causing significant illness across all age groups. For most healthy adults it means several days feeling genuinely unwell. For older people and those with underlying health conditions, flu can lead to serious complications including pneumonia and hospitalisation.
The flu vaccine is updated each year to match the strains expected to circulate that winter. Getting vaccinated in autumn gives your immune system time to respond before the season peaks. At Cotham Pharmacy we offer both NHS and private flu vaccinations, with same day appointments available.

Flu vaccination dates are set nationally by the NHS each year. Here is when you can book at Cotham Pharmacy this season.
Private flu vaccine
Available to anyone aged 9 and above. Book directly through our online booking system.
NHS — pregnant women
Pregnant women can book their free NHS flu vaccine from the week commencing 21st September.
NHS — all other eligible
All other eligible NHS patients can book their free flu vaccine from 1st October.
Want to get vaccinated before the NHS programme begins? Private flu vaccinations are available from the week commencing 21st September — no referral needed and same day appointments available.
Who is eligible?
We offer NHS flu vaccinations for eligible adult patients and private flu vaccinations for anyone aged 9 and above who wants protection this winter.
NHS Flu Vaccine
Free for eligible adult patients from 1st October. Pregnant women from w/c 21st September.

Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy — available from w/c 21st September
Adults with certain long-term health conditions including asthma, COPD, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease and neurological conditions

Available to all aged 9 and above from w/c 21st September.

The injection takes seconds. Most people experience nothing beyond a little soreness at the injection site for a day or two.

Please note: Vaccination should be postponed if you are currently unwell with a significant fever. A mild cold is not a reason to delay. If you are pregnant, have a known egg allergy or are taking immunosuppressant medication please let our team know at booking so we can advise on the most appropriate vaccine for you.

NHS Flu Vaccine
Eligible patients can book their free NHS flu vaccine directly through the NHS booking service. Select Cotham Pharmacy as your preferred location. Pregnant women from w/c 21st September, all other eligible patients from 1st October.
