Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, predominantly in tropical and subtropical regions. It is one of the most common mosquito-borne diseases in the world, with an estimated 400 million infections occurring annually.
Symptoms include sudden high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, nausea and a characteristic skin rash. Most people recover within 1 to 2 weeks, however severe dengue — also known as dengue haemorrhagic fever — can be life threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
Do I need this vaccine?
The Dengue vaccine is recommended for adults aged 18 and over who are travelling to high risk areas, particularly those who have previously been infected with Dengue. Our pharmacist will assess your suitability at your free consultation.

How it spreads
Bites from infected Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are active during the day as well as at dawn and dusk.
How many doses do I need?
The Dengue vaccine is given as a course of 3 doses. It is licensed for adults aged 18 and over. Prior Dengue infection history will be discussed at your consultation as this affects suitability.
Course
3 doses given at 0, 6 and 12 months. Full course required for complete protection.
Timing
Course takes 12 months to complete. Discuss with our pharmacist if travelling sooner.
